Marilyn Monroe and Mona Lisa made of lipgloss?

Picture is from here, one of the largest Europe's online beauty shops has paid artist Duncan Cargill to recreate three iconic paintings using lip gloss, foundation, eye liners, eye shadows, nail polish and so on. The three chosen masterpieces are Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Johannes Vermeer's Girl with the Pearl Earring and Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe portrait.

Each piece will be auctioned on eBay with all proceeds going to three chosen cancer charities.

The bids are currently a “meagre” £ 205 for Mona Lisa, £ 255 for Marilyn and £ 300 for Girl with the Pearl Earring. There is still 5 more days to go, so we don't know yet, what the final price will be.

Aaron Chatterley, CEO of, commented, "When it comes to their make-up routine, our customers know that there is an art to getting the perfect look. It seemed like a fabulous way to celebrate the connection between the worlds of beauty and art."

I think … it'is just outrageously expensive for a painting made of something as temporary as face paints. And a very stupid idea.

For Estonian beauties:

Veebipood lasi briti kunstnikul Duncan Cargillil “taaselustada” kolm kuulsat maali: Leonrdo da Vinci Mona Lisa, Johannes Vermeeri Pärlkõrvarõngaga tüdruku ja Andy Warholi Marilyn Monroe portree. Taieste eripäraks on, et need on “maalitud” kasutades huulepulki, -läiget, jumestuskreemi ja muid ilutooteid. Odavaima maali, Mona Lisa hind on hetkel eBay oksjonil ligikaudu 233 eurot. Hea diil, mis?

Siiralt teie,
Tolmu Rull
