10 % off at Quum. Today only!

I love promotions and discounts!

Today, Estonian webshop Quum that sells fragrances and discounted beauty items gives you 10 % off of the merchandise they have at their warehouse or office. (I don't know which one it is.) This goes for shipping too.  They ship worldwide. You have to use code D7884402 at checkout. The offer is good today only.

You can get even a better discount if you have bought something from them before and scored their bonus points called quumikad. I think the maximum amount of bonus points you can use per order is worth 3.40 euros. Not bad, eh?

I am not affiliated with the shop, but I have bought from them several times. I think the service is pretty good, shipping costs are reasonable and sometimes they give you free samples or free gifts with your order. And it is an Estonian business, that is good of course. On the other hand, sometimes their merchandise is a bit more expensive than in other shops. Still, Quum gets thumbs up from me!

Sincerely Yours,
Tolmu Rull

For my lovely Estonian ladies:

Täna ja ainult täna kehtib Quumis 10 % allahindlus koha peal olemasolevale kaubale, kasutades koodi D7884402. Kui oled varem sealt tellinud ja sul on quumikaid, siis võid saada veel kuni 3.40 eurot alla. Julgen kodumaist kosmeetika veebipoodi soovitada!

Blue locks trend. Are you in?

Kate's picture is from here.

Thinking of hair color, I read an interesting article about new hair colouring trends from Mama's a Rolling Stone web magazine. Guess what? Faded-away blue hair colour is in! A fair amount of celebrities like Lauren Conrad, our own Kerli Kõiv and even Lady Gaga have been seen sporting the trend.

Actually, this look is not so new to me. When I was at high school many-many years ago, I let a novelty and drama loving friend dye my lovely blonde locks dark teal in the school's ladies room. Using a pot of writing ink. Oh, the exitement! Oh, the attention I got!

In case you have forgot what a dark teal looks like, see it here.

Of course the ink started to transfer from my locks to clothes, pillowcases and to my face when it rained. The majority of it came off after washing my hair for a few times, but not from the ends, that apparently were a bit more damaged in first place. So, I ended up looking exactly like Kate Bosworth now!

Come on Kate, I did it first!

Oh, those were the days! I think this time I will pass :)

What I did with my hair next after the blue hair phase I will tell you another time, when all the trendy people are already rocking the style :P

In case anybody is interested how to achieve the blue-hair style without using the ink, get the tips from here.

Sincerely Yours,
Tolmu Rull

For my lovely Estonian ladies:

Mitme kuulsuse peas on hiljuti nähtud siniseid salke.

OMG! Avon does haircolour!

I like Avon products quite a lot, because in my book they have good quality and reasonabe price. Avon is a company, that launches new products frequently. Nail polish, masks, creams, shower gels, make up items -- there is always plenty to choose from in their brochure.

Anyway, last month Avon announced that they have a new range of permanent haircolours coming out in August (This stands for Estonia, I don't know whether they are already available in other countries). I was quite surprised, because I have been ogling and drooling over Avon brochures for more than 10 years I guess and they have never before offered a hair color.

But to come to think of it --- why not? The majority of women colour their hair. Avon's business is relied on their brochures and sales ladies and while it is quite complicated to choose a lipstick or your exact shade of foundation from a brochure, there's no such problem with haircolour. While buying haircolour you have to rely on the printed picture anyway. You can't test it in store, can you? Besides, you've got nobody to blame when it goes wrong :)

The range consists of 25 shades from Ultra Light Ash Blonde to Natural Black. The price is comparable to other at-home hair colors. The promises are usual: natural glossy hair, covers gray (not that I need to) and long-lasting result. The special thing about Avon hair color is that there is something called pre-color care included in the packet. I haven't seen anything like it so naturally I'm curious.

My dark roots need covering and I think I'm going to test Avon's new haircolor out tomorrow. I've got my hands on two of the lightest shades, Ultra Light Ash Blonde and Very Light Champagne Blonde. Cryptical funny names, as usual. My only problem is, which one to be first, Ash Blonde or Champagne Blonde. So should I be a smoker or should I be a drinker first?

The haircolor range is available in Estonia via Avon representatives from 18th of August. A packet costs 5.50 EUR.

Sincerely Yours,
Tolmu Rull

For lovely Estonian ladies:

Teada-tuntud Avon on tulnud välja oma juuksevärvisarjaga. Mõnevõrra üllatav, aga miks mitte. Kui kataloogi järgi on huulepulka, lõhna või jumestuskreemi valida päris keeruline, siis juuksevärvi ostes pead niikuinii pakile trükitud pildist või mingist sünteetilisest juuksetutikust lähtuma, sest poes proovida ju ei saa :)

Minu kartulikarva juuksejuured nõuavad värvimist. Soetasin endale kaks kõige heledamat tooni, Ultra Light Ash Blonde ehk ülihele tuhkblond ja Very Light Champagne Blonde ehk väga hele šampanjablond. Pean valima, kas hakata kõigepealt suitsetajaks või joomariks :P

Uues sarjas on 25 tooni heleblondist mustani. Pakk maksab 5.50 EUR ja on saadaval loomulikult Avoni edasimüüjate kaudu.

Are you an e.l.f-acholic? If so, why?

I've never really understood the lament and hype around Eyes.Lips.Face Cosmetics or e.l.f. as the company is mostly called. (If it's possible that there's anyone out there who doesn't know absolutely anything about e.l.f. then it is a company selling a wide range of low-priced make-up items online, they have several sites in Europe and a U.S. one. I'm talking about e.l.f. UK that delivers to most of Europe including Estonia.)

Yes, some of their stuff, for example the famous Studio line brushes, brush holders, cream eye liners and brow kits are really good. I think even that good that people would probably buy them at much higher price. I personally quite like the cases and some of the regular line beauty tools too, but not that much I would pay even a bit more. The rest of the stuff I've tried is just ordinary and I could very well do without it.

Fortunately, I've yet to have a really bad experience with e.l.f., if I don't count the two faulty and dented brushes from the regular line I received a while ago. I believe I owe my relatively good experiences with e.l.f to the fact that I always spend long hours doing research before I buy anything on the web.

Then again, there are a lot of people out there who haven't been so lucky. I've read lots and lots of bad reviews too. The shedding brushes with moving ferrules are a common problem, there are a lot of other complaints around. Overly scratchy brushes and broken or smelly and color bleeding ones with moving ferrules, broken lipsticks and smashed blushes, crushed eyeshadows, eyeshadows that arrive safely, but don't show up on your skin at all, face mists that have exploded in transit and brush shampoos that because of an untight bottle have soaked all the remaining contents of your packet. And to top it all off, the worst of them all, a mouldy brush case  (that was one of the the things that provoked this post).

If you start thinking properly, the e.l.f stuff is not even that cheap (not without a discount code anyway). Let's take a random example: an e.l.f nail polish or a lip gloss costs normally 1.70 EUR, the delivery options start from £ 3.95 (about 4.50 EUR). You can get as good nail polish or lip gloss from lots of of Estonian beauty stores for 1.70 EUR without having to pay any postage. (If you don't believe me, follow this blog closely, lots of more nail polish info to come!) Or you can get a more expensive one instead of paying the postage. Whoa, 1.70 EUR+ 4.50 EUR makes 6.20 EUR!

Of course, you can say that if you order for a fairly big amount, the postage will be next to nonexistent for every piece. Yep, if you order 10 lip glosses or nail polishes, the cost will be down to 2.15 EUR per piece, but overall you have spent 21.50 EUR. And surely you don't need 10 new lipglosses at once :)

Now we get to discounts. To get a discount, you have to play the code game.

Distributy UK, who sells e.l.f. in Europe has some promotion going on constantly: free shipping if you order a certain amount, free shipping plus a free lipgloss, 10 free eyeshadows if you order is more than £30, 25 % off, 30 % off and of course, the infamous 50 % off, that caused so many complaints because website lagging and items being out of stock and made thousands of people hanging online and trying to get their order through for hours. (U.S. Readers, your e.l.f promotions are different, so the situation might be different too. Or so I've heard.)

A few months ago, the promo codes were released on FB or in their newsletters only, so you might easily have missed them. Now the ongoing code is on the UK site's front page, available for everybody.

I'm not a marketing guru in any case, but I think the company has taken the pressure too far. A few days ago, I received e.l.f newsletter with an 33 % off offer. Guess what? I didn't even consider it for a minute. Why should I, if I have loads of e.l.f. stuff already and have a feeling that there might be a much better promotion coming next week?

Actually, there will be. When the e.l.f. UK page reaches a quarter to million “likes” on FB, there will be a special promotion. And right now, lots of people are complaining on FB that if they don't get at least 75 % off, then the promotion is not good or “special” at all. Is it a sign that people are too fed up with constant promotions?

So, to round it all up, why are people taking the trouble to order from e.l.f? What's the phenomenon? Do you really think the e.l.f stuff is extraordinarily good or is it only that it is cheap and you can get loads of it at once?

What do you prefer: to buy one more expensive thing that is sure to be of good quality or lots of stuff that could be hit or miss (sometimes mostly miss)? Is it gonna be a Nars Orgasm in your make-up bag or ten blushes from e.l.f.?

Please remember that one choice is probably as valid as the other, it's just the matter of personal preferences and choices.

Sincerely yours,
Tolmu Rull

For Estonian beauties:

Mõnevõrra närvesööv on e.l.f.-i juures ka pidev soodustuste süsteem: teatud koodiga võib saada kuni 50 % alla. Hetkel on üks selline kampaania just käimas: kasuta “kassas” koodi Carnival.

Mida teie arvate, kas osta Nars'i Orgasm põsepuna või sama raha eest kümme tükki e.l.f.-i omi?

Siiralt teie,
Tolmu Rull

P.S. Kas seda eestikeelset osa on üldse kellelegi vaja???

Marilyn Monroe and Mona Lisa made of lipgloss?

Picture is from here

Feelunique.com, one of the largest Europe's online beauty shops has paid artist Duncan Cargill to recreate three iconic paintings using lip gloss, foundation, eye liners, eye shadows, nail polish and so on. The three chosen masterpieces are Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Johannes Vermeer's Girl with the Pearl Earring and Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe portrait.

Each piece will be auctioned on eBay with all proceeds going to three chosen cancer charities.

The bids are currently a “meagre” £ 205 for Mona Lisa, £ 255 for Marilyn and £ 300 for Girl with the Pearl Earring. There is still 5 more days to go, so we don't know yet, what the final price will be.

Aaron Chatterley, CEO of feelunique.com, commented, "When it comes to their make-up routine, our customers know that there is an art to getting the perfect look. It seemed like a fabulous way to celebrate the connection between the worlds of beauty and art."

I think … it'is just outrageously expensive for a painting made of something as temporary as face paints. And a very stupid idea.

Sincerely yours,
Tolmu Rull

For Estonian beauties:

Veebipood Feelunique.com lasi briti kunstnikul Duncan Cargillil “taaselustada” kolm kuulsat maali: Leonrdo da Vinci Mona Lisa, Johannes Vermeeri Pärlkõrvarõngaga tüdruku ja Andy Warholi Marilyn Monroe portree. Taieste eripäraks on, et need on “maalitud” kasutades huulepulki, -läiget, jumestuskreemi ja muid ilutooteid. Odavaima maali, Mona Lisa hind on hetkel eBay oksjonil ligikaudu 233 eurot. Hea diil, mis?

Ajakiri Mood: kui sulle see meeldib, telli nüüd

This post is for Estonian beauties only

Hetkel on ajakirjal Mood käimas tellimispakkumine: telli ajakiri aastaks 23 EUR eest ja saad tasuta Ricci Ricci by Nina Ricci lõhna. 50 ml edp. Võib vormistada ka otsekorralduse. Kingituse saavad 250 kiireimat tellijat.

Telimisvõimalusena on parim www.telli.ee

Siiralt teie,
Tolmu Rull

Attention, all earth lovers!

The Body Shop used to be a place where I liked to lurk, but never really purchased anything. I reckoned their body butters to be too greasy, their make up to be too expensive and of poor quality and the other stuff just too ordinary to justify the price.

I guess the Body Shop must have changed. Or I must have changed. Now I find lots of stuff from there every time I drop by.

My last find were the Earth Lover shower gels. They come in 6 varieties: Apricot and Basil, Lemon and Thyme, Fig and Rosemary, Cucumber and Mint, Pear and Lemongrass, Watermelon and Eucalyptus.

I love-love-love anything extraordianary and kitchen-related in beauty stuff. Especially Mediterranean kitchen related. Tomatoes, cucumbers, basil, peppermint, paprika, parsley... I'd even go for a bratwurst or raw salmon. OK, that was a joke, but I have actually tried washing my hair with raw egg and rye bread (an epic fail!). So, naturally I have been craving these from the moment they launched. Not to mention the nature friendly attitude (soap free, sulphate free, 100 % biodegradable) these carry.

My itch went just stronger when I got to try the Apricot and Basil variety at my friends sauna. It felt and smelled divine. The scent was really strong, but not synthetic or unpleasant and the gel itself didn't dry my skin at all. And I needed only a small drop to cover my whole body with delicious fluff!

I think it smelled even better on my hubby's skin, so it's unisex too. Love from the first touch, I'd say.

When I discovered these were on sale, naturally I had to get them. All of them smelt divine, so the choice was really hard. I ended up with Apricot, Lemon, Watermelon and Fig.

Four 250 ml shower gels cost me 17.50 EUR.

Sincerely yours,
Tolmu Rull

For Estonian beauties:

Ostsin eelmisel nädalal Viru Keskuse Body Shopist 4 suurepärast Earth Lovers dušigeeli. Need on niisutavad, seebivabad, 100 % biolagunevad ega sisalda sulfaate. Lõhnad on suurepärased ja koostis ka. Soovitan!

Alati on kena sinuga kohtuda!

My first brazilian

So I finally did it! I have been planning to get a professional bikini wax (or should I say sugaring? ) for ages, but never had enough courage to go and get one. I know, I know, this is a sensitive subject, so I try to be completely honest and not to be too graphic, I promise. Or not :)

So far, I had removed my bikini hair with a hair removal cream (messy and didn't work well), shaving (needs to be done often and the result is less than exellent), with an epilator (needs a ballerina's bend to reach all areas and is quite painful). I wasn't satisfied with any of these methods and needed a completely new one.

As brazilian waxes are quite costly, I bought a 50 % off voucher from a coupon site and booked myself an appointment. I also figured that forewarned means forearmed and read Rowena's memoirs (here) and (here ) and some Estonian journalist's experience ( here).

A few nights before the appointment I had complete nightmares on the subject and even considered cancelling the appointment. My husband's constant teasing on the subject didn't help of course :)

Preparing myself for the treatment I let my pubic hair grow for about 5 or 6 weeks, so I was really bushy. The 70's porno star bushy I mean. Not a good feeling, no no, especially when it's bikini wearing season here in cold north.

My other preparations for the wax involved taking 400mg-s of Ibuprofen to tame the pain and gulping down a big glass of wine to work up the courage.

When I got to the salon Ingliroos (here), I felt my suspicions grow, because it is located in a hotel near the port and I felt that the salon was meant for Finnish seniors who get only back massages and blow dries, not Estonian ladies planning to beautify their most intimate parts. It didn't help that the salon was completely empty when I got there and nobody came for ten painstakingly long minutes.

Finally the beauticians came from their lunch, chewing the last bits of their salad, and I was told that they haven't really pencilled down my appointment :S

Fortunately, they could fit me in (I hope you can sense the irony here) and off we went with a Russian lady to the beautician's den, where I was asked to lie down, remove my undergarments and put on some disposable thongs that didn't cover much anyhow. I felt really awkward and vulnerable lying there!

Then the beautician came, heated up her sugar wax, got some wooden spatulas and paper strips and began to work. She asked me to bend one leg to the side, shift away the paper thong, stretch my down-there skin with my hands, appilied the wax, smoothed on some paper and ...pulled away.

Not so painful, but startling.

Really startling. I literally jumped at every pull. Couldn't control myself. The beautician tried to soothe me in words and with her hands but it didn't help. I clearly understood that I was not in so much pain, but the sharp pulling effect got the better of me every time.

Eventually, we agreed that I was going to get it all off, because my hair down there were too long to leave the “landing strip”. The waxer even had to chop some off with the scissors as they interfered with the waxing. She told me that she used the sugar method that was said to be less painful for the client and more comfortable for the waxer, as it is possible to do the same area more than once.

After a fair amount of applying the wax and pulling I was asked to lie on my stomach and a roll of towels was put under my lower body so that my butt was literally in the air. Yes, you guessed, she was going for my butt crack hair. Fortunately, I don't have a lot, but the concept of a brazilian means that you have to get it ALL off.

Surprisngly, I didn't feel embarrassed at all. The beauticians manners were really sweet and discreet, I could see that she had to do a lot of work with my bush but she still felt embarrassed for the pain she caused me and tried to comfort me that next time the procedure will feel much better and easier.

The truth was that I had expected the wax to be much more painful than it really was. In fact, at some point it felt even relaxing like a massage. I even tried to comfort the beautician that she needn't be worried about the pain.

It took about an hour and a half altogether, so at the end of it my back was completely tired and at the end I was bored to death with staring the ceiling and saying an occasional “Ouch!” when the waxer reached some sensitive spot.

After the wax the whole area felt really-really sticky, but not achy or swollen. After I'd had a shower at home, I really couldn't believe how soft my lady parts felt. It was quite hard to refrain from touching them from time to time (khm, I just did NOT say this!).

Oh, and just FYI, the sex did feel different and better afterwards. And some of my girlfriends actually asked to SEE the result :S

I stole the picture from here. About the picture – you didn't really expect to see the result, did you?

So, ladies just GO and DO it! It might be the beginning of a new addiction. I have booked my new appointment already.

What's up next, the vajazzling ? A pubic piercing perhaps?

Sincerely Yours,
Tolmu Rull

For Estonian beauties:

Jah, miks mitte. Kas ma läheksin uuesti brasiilia vahatamist tegema? Mul on järgmiseks nädalaks aeg kinni pandud :) Siis jagan muljeid salongist Kamibi.

First post! Ehk see on Tolmu Rulli uus blogi

I don't know a thing about blogging, but I really want to have a beauty blog of my own and voice my opinion about beauty stuff :)

The posts will be in English mostly, as the beauty blogging community is very international. Still, I will provide some Estonian content for the lovely Estonian beauties.

Please remember, I'm doing this only for fun, so the result can be sometimes less than perfect.

See on Tolmu Rulli ilublogi esimene postitus.
