10 steps what to do with a free weekend below -30 ° C?

If you finally have a totally free, no-obligations weekend over a month (partly because of extremely cold weather), what to use it for? Here's my recipe.

1. Book a yoga practice for Saturday morning in Thursday evening. Plan to do all twenty of your nails on Friday (and maybe some of your feline friend's nails too. Naturally, his manicure involves cutting only).
2. Preparing for the cold weekend at home, buy an awesome amount of food from the store at 10 o'clock in the morning, along with a bottle of red wine and huge 3 kg salmon fillet.
3. Open the wine at 11, impatiently. Drink all of it in matter of some hours.
4. Cook salmon in three different ways. Set aside some salmon for fourth dish. Send hubby to store to bring more alcohol.
5. Watch Richard Corrigan's Cookery Shool recordings on TV, chat on phone, learn about surprise guests and host them. Drink some whiskey and beer on top of the wine.
6. Wake up Saturday morning with the worst of hangover in the world. Sleep some more and forget completely about yoga practice. Miss it, naturally :)
7. Send hubby to store for some ice cream and frozen berries. Btw, the weather outside is -32 degrees below Celsius by now. Thank God the car still worked and I got my ice cream for nursing the hangover :)
8. Eat ice cream and cook some more salmon. Have a drink or too just to keep yourself warm (hm, works for the hangover too).
9. Read a few blogs and buy some new beauty stuff online. Don't regret it later, it was all supercheap and on sale. Polish those nails.
10. Find finally some blogging mojo and blog away vigorously. Make plans for next yoga practice and hope tomorrow will be better than today.

I don't know what the point of this post is :) Except the part about nail polishing and online purchases this post doesn't even belong in a beauty blog. Go figure.

It's concept is the same, as with GlossyBox, but I find it is too expensive and meagre for Estonian context. They offer mostly very small samples from cheaper brands. Lugesin täna Cherry.ee-st, et nüüd on ka Eestis kuulsa GlossyBox'i sarnane teenus (või on see pigem toode?) See pakkus mulle kohe huvi, sest olen välismaa blogidest palju lugenud GlossyBox'ide ja teiste sarnaste üllatuskarpide kohta.


Kes ei tea, millega tegu, siis asja idee on selles, et tellid endale Glambox'i, maksad iga kuu kindla summa ja sulle saadetakse pakk 4-5 mini-ilutoote ehk sämpliga. Minitooted on suuruses 1 ml kuni 80 ml ja need valitakse juhuslikkuse alusel: sa ei tea ette, mis sulle saadetakse ja pole ka garantiid, kas need asjad sulle sobivad. Küll aga lubab firma, et minitoodete müügihind kokku on suurem kui hind, mille eest paki tellid. Glambox maksab 7.90 eurot, postikulu ei lisandu. 


Kuigi täna pakuti Cherry's Glambox'i üheks kuuks odavamalt (4.90 eur), ei tõusnud mu käsi siiski vautšerit ostma.


Esiteks, tootevalik, mille näidised võidakse pakki panna, ei paelunud mind. Valikus on palju minule tundmatuid brände, mis esmapilgul ei tundu üldse huvitavad, või selliseid, mis niikuinii palju testreid ja sämpleid jagavad, näiteks Lumene. GlossyBox koosneb luksusbrändidest, mille sämplid on ka väga kallid.


Teiseks, valikus on ka väga odavaid brände, näiteks BYS, mille täissuuruses tooted maksavad täishinnaga vaid paar euri. Tootevalikut lubatakse edaspidi küll laiendada, aga kes teab, milliste brändidega...


Kolmandaks, ettevõte lubab, et iga kuu on karbis vähemalt kaks 15 ml suurust sämplit. See oli Glambox'i juures kõige pelutavam. Mismõttes ma maksan 7.90 euri ja saan näiteks 2x 15 ml kreemikest ja 3 pisikest 1 ml testrit? Pole üldse hea diil. Testreid ja minisid saab sageli ostudega tasutagi kaasa.


GlamBoxis GlossyBox'is ikka on sageli ka täissuuruses tooteid, isegi sellistelt brändidelt nagu Nars, Stila, Leighton Denny jne. Mõnes pakis on koguni mitu täissuuruses toodet. Seega tundub GlossyBox oluliselt rohkem oma hinda väärt, ehkki on kallim (12.95 inglise naela ehk ligikaudu 15 euri). 


Neljandaks, Glambox ei tule mitte koju, vaid sellel peab automaadis ise järel käima.


Seega pean Glambox'i liiga kalliks ja liiga ihneks teenuseks. GlossyBox'i ehk isegi telliksin, kui seda Eestis pakutaks. Milline on teie arvamus? Kas telliksite?

Beauty bloggers are bizarre? Oh yes, they are!

While they are doing photos, I can hoard the remote...

Today I read a most hilarious list of weird habits you develop if you become a beauty blogger. It is written by Lily, a 19-year old British beauty blogger with rather good sense of humor and witty tongue. You can see the full list of beauty bloggers weird habits in her blog, Beauty's Bad Habit.

Although I'm a rather new beauty blogger, I found myself guilty of the things mentioned in Lily's list in so many ways. So I thought, it could make a great tag, because it would be fun to find out about other people's bad habits too.

My bad habits are (in brackets are the numbers from Beauty's Bad Habit list):

• (1) I have bought some things for just blogging purposes. And bought some things out of curiosity created by other beauty bloggers;
• (3) Have ditched time management and spent more time getting good photos or composing a post than I planned to;
• (4) Been doing that at night;
• (5) EDIT: At first I thought that I am not obsessed with light, because my blog photos don't rely on daylight. On second thought, taking nice blog photos required buying some new photo equipment and now I'm thinking about new macro lens. Creating good light conditions + good equipment = bleeding money;
• (7) Asked the shop assistants about the collections they've never heard about. Sometimes I have even advised them about beauty products!; 
• (9) Gotten exited about silly things. Yup, I'm curious about this Creme Brule vaseline. EDIT 2: beauty blogging has made me learn German language, as some of my favourite blogs are in German and I want to understand them without the help of Google Translator;
• (11) Thought about upcoming reviews in front of the mirror or in the shower;
• (14) Painted only one hand;
• (15) Keep some of my beauty products in original boxes. No empty boxes though, husband would throw me out :P 
• (16) Kept eyeshadows and lipsticks untouched and hauls intact in shopping bags until I can get a photo. Heh, I've even kept empty bottles for picture purposes. 

There's another point I would add to the bad habits list. I have noticed from many blogs that a lot of beauty bloggers have cats, who can't be kept away from blog photos. 

So point number 19 would be: We develop an unnormally big love for cats.

The beauty bucket list

Do you remember the movie with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman called the  Bucket List? If you don't in a nutshell the synopsis is that an auto mechanic and a millionaire escape the cancer hospital to make real all the wishes and wants they never had the courage/money to make true.

I heard that the movie was on TV tonight and started to wonder. Imagine that you'd have only a few months to live and an unlimited (beauty) budget. What would you get or do? Where would you go (for beauty treatments that is)?

The first thing that came to my mind was fake boobs. I mean, aren't we all somewhat curious about them since Pamela flaunted hers in Baywatch? Then again, I'm quite well-endowed naturally and getting these would take some pain and several months to recover. So, nay.

The other thing that jumped my mind was hair extensions. I've been blessed with quite thin and light Scandinavian type of hair, that never grows really long and if it does, it is not that thick and flouncy I would love it to be. In real life, I've always found hair extensions too expensive and troublesome, so I've never let those nowhere near my scalp. On my bucket list – yes, please!

The next obsession I have, is with Orgasm. Nars Orgasm, I mean. I know some people reckon the name to be tacky, but I have been mesmerized with it the minute I heard about it. I knew sometimes I would be one of the happy owners of Orgasm. To this day, I'm not, but getting this (ahem, an Orgasm) will definitely be on my bucket list.

Then, the third thing. I would really love to own the YSL Tribtoo kind of shoes. Several pairs, if possible. C'mon, what's there not to love (besides the constant danger of tripping over that will be really-really easy to overcome, right?).

And a Kelly bag wouldn't hurt too. A few years ago Estonian clothing brand called Monton did a replica, but it's still merely a replica and I managed to miss this too. 

And last but not least, flying over to Thailand to get a series of Thai massages and a good soak in a pool with Mai Tai's being served constantly.

Are you an e.l.f-acholic? If so, why?

I've never really understood the lament and hype around Eyes.Lips.Face Cosmetics or e.l.f. as the company is mostly called. (If it's possible that there's anyone out there who doesn't know absolutely anything about e.l.f. then it is a company selling a wide range of low-priced make-up items online, they have several sites in Europe and a U.S. one. I'm talking about e.l.f. UK that delivers to most of Europe including Estonia.)

Yes, some of their stuff, for example the famous Studio line brushes, brush holders, cream eye liners and brow kits are really good. I think even that good that people would probably buy them at much higher price. I personally quite like the cases and some of the regular line beauty tools too, but not that much I would pay even a bit more. The rest of the stuff I've tried is just ordinary and I could very well do without it.

Fortunately, I've yet to have a really bad experience with e.l.f., if I don't count the two faulty and dented brushes from the regular line I received a while ago. I believe I owe my relatively good experiences with e.l.f to the fact that I always spend long hours doing research before I buy anything on the web.

Then again, there are a lot of people out there who haven't been so lucky. I've read lots and lots of bad reviews too. The shedding brushes with moving ferrules are a common problem, there are a lot of other complaints around. Overly scratchy brushes and broken or smelly and color bleeding ones with moving ferrules, broken lipsticks and smashed blushes, crushed eyeshadows, eyeshadows that arrive safely, but don't show up on your skin at all, face mists that have exploded in transit and brush shampoos that because of an untight bottle have soaked all the remaining contents of your packet. And to top it all off, the worst of them all, a mouldy brush case  (that was one of the the things that provoked this post).

If you start thinking properly, the e.l.f stuff is not even that cheap (not without a discount code anyway). Let's take a random example: an e.l.f nail polish or a lip gloss costs normally 1.70 EUR, the delivery options start from £ 3.95 (about 4.50 EUR). You can get as good nail polish or lip gloss from lots of of Estonian beauty stores for 1.70 EUR without having to pay any postage. (If you don't believe me, follow this blog closely, lots of more nail polish info to come!) Or you can get a more expensive one instead of paying the postage. Whoa, 1.70 EUR+ 4.50 EUR makes 6.20 EUR!

Of course, you can say that if you order for a fairly big amount, the postage will be next to nonexistent for every piece. Yep, if you order 10 lip glosses or nail polishes, the cost will be down to 2.15 EUR per piece, but overall you have spent 21.50 EUR. And surely you don't need 10 new lipglosses at once :)

Now we get to discounts. To get a discount, you have to play the code game.

Distributy UK, who sells e.l.f. in Europe has some promotion going on constantly: free shipping if you order a certain amount, free shipping plus a free lipgloss, 10 free eyeshadows if you order is more than £30, 25 % off, 30 % off and of course, the infamous 50 % off, that caused so many complaints because website lagging and items being out of stock and made thousands of people hanging online and trying to get their order through for hours. (U.S. Readers, your e.l.f promotions are different, so the situation might be different too. Or so I've heard.)

A few months ago, the promo codes were released on FB or in their newsletters only, so you might easily have missed them. Now the ongoing code is on the UK site's front page, available for everybody.

I'm not a marketing guru in any case, but I think the company has taken the pressure too far. A few days ago, I received e.l.f newsletter with an 33 % off offer. Guess what? I didn't even consider it for a minute. Why should I, if I have loads of e.l.f. stuff already and have a feeling that there might be a much better promotion coming next week?

Actually, there will be. When the e.l.f. UK page reaches a quarter to million “likes” on FB, there will be a special promotion. And right now, lots of people are complaining on FB that if they don't get at least 75 % off, then the promotion is not good or “special” at all. Is it a sign that people are too fed up with constant promotions?

So, to round it all up, why are people taking the trouble to order from e.l.f? What's the phenomenon? Do you really think the e.l.f stuff is extraordinarily good or is it only that it is cheap and you can get loads of it at once?

What do you prefer: to buy one more expensive thing that is sure to be of good quality or lots of stuff that could be hit or miss (sometimes mostly miss)? Is it gonna be a Nars Orgasm in your make-up bag or ten blushes from e.l.f.?

Please remember that one choice is probably as valid as the other, it's just the matter of personal preferences and choices.

I don't know a thing about blogging, but I really want to have a beauty blog of my own and voice my opinion about beauty stuff :)

The posts will be in English mostly, as the beauty blogging community is very international. Still, I will provide some Estonian content for the lovely Estonian beauties.

Please remember, I'm doing this only for fun, so the result can be sometimes less than perfect.
